Turkey summons US ambassador over arrest warrants

Earlier in the day, the USA authority had issued arrest warrants for 16 people, including 12 bodyguards of the Turkish president, over an incident in May outside Turkey's Washington embassy when several people were injured during a brawl; Erdogan was on an official visit to the U.S.at the time of the incident.

Two other suspects, whose charges were announced Thursday alongside the Turkish security personnel, are Canadian citizens, Newsham said. The DC-based Turkish news site Washington Hatti reported today that Eyup Yildirim was arrested for playing a role in this incident, and the Daily Caller now reports that a second, Sinan Narin, was also arrested.

At the time, two men were arrested and charged with simple assault.

Two people were arrested on site, and MPD made two more arrests yesterday, charging a Virginia and a New Jersey resident.

The Turkish Embassy has blamed the violence on demonstrators linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, which Turkey and the United States consider a terrorist group - a charged denied by the protesters.

Twelve of the outstanding warrants are for men and one woman who were part of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's security detail.

Washington's mayor and police chief have scheduled a news conference to provide an update on arrests. Police are expected to release photos of the other 8 possible suspects and appeal to the public for information on their identities, the official said. The brawl was just business as usual for Erdogan's team, for whom even a few criminal charges were worth the opportunity to give those protesting a gathering of Turkish-Americans a taste of home.

Lakers hoping to bring Lonzo Ball in for second workout
Fox didn't just hold his own; he owned Ball that night by scoring 39 points and most important, getting the Wildcats the victory. The Lakers have always been rumored to be heavily interested in taking UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball second overall.

He said the U.S. State Department would handle any further action regarding execution of the arrest warrants. "We make sure they are safe, but we also make sure they follow our laws", she said.

Nine people were injured, with several going to the hospital for treatment of head injuries, broken teeth, deep cuts and bruises.

"They should bring themselves here to the United States to answer these charges", Newsham said.

The brawl took place outside the residence of Turkey's ambassador to Washington shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump met with Erdogan at the White House.

Eighteen people linked to an attack on protesters last month - including bodyguards to Turkey's president - face assault charges in Washington, D.C., city officials said Thursday. [District Police Chief Peter] Newsham added that the personnel will be arrested if they attempt to enter the U.S. If any are still in the country, they could be expelled if Turkey refuses to waive diplomatic immunity.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sitting in a vehicle nearby when the incident occurred. Demonstrators were protesting Erdogan's increasingly authoritarian regime outside the Turkish ambassador's residence when a group of men stormed their picket line and started throwing punches.

The newspaper said the men had travelled to Washington to support the Turkish president, but it was unclear if they had a formal connection to his security detail.
