  • Implications of the ISIS Attacks in Tehran

Speaking on June 13 on the sidelines of a conference in Oslo, Zarif said Tehran has "intelligence that Saudi Arabia is actively engaged in promoting terrorist groups" in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan and is home to a large Sunni population.

According to IRIB, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in an interview with Doha-based Al Jazeera news agency, stressing that issues among countries can not be settled through exerting pressure, leveling threats and imposing sanctions.

"On the Western side the same type of activity is being undertaken, again by using the diplomatic hospitality of other neighbours", Zarif said.

Relations between the two neighbours are at their most tense in years.

Two days later, suicide bombings and shootings in Tehran killed 17 people.

His comments come after a top Iranian general claimed the Islamic Republic had evidence the US was directly supporting the group.

In one of his latest tweets on Monday, the Supreme leader claimed that the "U.S. president accuses Iran of terrorism, while terrorism in this region has American roots".

Philippine marines killed in fighting with Islamic rebels
After days of fighting against # ISIS taking hold of Marawi city in the southern island of the Philippines , U.S. Herrera said security forces were struggling to contain the fighters without causing civilian casualties.

Following the incident, the so-called Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombings.

Qatari foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said yesterday the country had "no clue what are the main reasons behind all these measures".

"America is a terrorist country and backs terrorism. therefore, we can not normalise ties with such country", he said.

He mentioned that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline was a significant project to develop good relations with Iran, but the US and Saudi administrations have been pressuring Islamabad to abandon the project.

Iran repeated accusations that Saudi Arabia funds Islamic militants including Islamic State.

"Today, we are witnessing the destructive outcomes of state-sponsored terrorism backed by Saudi Arabia, the United States and some (other) reactionary regional countries in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen and elsewhere, including in some European countries", Jazayeri said as quoted by the Tasnim news agency.
