The embassy said violators could be subject to a fine of 500,000 UAE dirhams or about Bt5 million and/or a jail term from three years to 15 years. Kuwait's emir traveled to Qatar to help mediate an end to a crisis that's seen Arab nations cut ties to the energy-rich nation home to a major US military base, though Emirati officials warned there was "nothing to negotiate".

The move comes as Bahrain criminalized any show of support on social media in a bid to further isolate Qatar, which has been accused of supporting terrorism and destabilizing the region.

Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his son, became Qatar's ruling emir in 2013, but Hamad Al Thani still looms large in the world of Qatari ruling-family politics.

However, Qatar denies all accusations.

Speaking in a rare interview, Emirati Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash told The Associated Press that Qatar has "chosen to ride the tiger of extremism and terrorism" and now needed to pay the price, despite Qatar long denying the allegation.

In Germany, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir also said he wants to see a response from the Arab countries' demands "soon".

CNN reported on Tuesday that USA intelligence officials believe Russian hackers planted a false news story that led Saudi Arabia and several allies to sever relations with Qatar.

Newspapers and television channels in the region have also been engaged in a war of words over Qatar's role.

He said: "The current crisis has nothing to do with the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as this is not an issue that concerns us".

Dr Shamsi said that the UAE has taken a firm stand against Qatar over its hostile policies against the other GCC and Middle East countries, adding that the decision was taken in the interest of UAE's national security and its people.
