May says ready to curb human rights laws to fight extremism

"There is no incompatibility between protecting human rights and taking effective action against terrorists", he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"And the minute we start throwing away our rights and our freedoms as a society is the moment we start to let the terrorists win".

Conservative sources said they would not withdraw from the ECHR but would seek opt-outs called "derogations" from certain aspects.

Earlier, Boris Johnson said the public was right to demand answers about the way the threat was assessed.

"This is exactly the time that human rights must be protected and cherished, not attacked and undermined".

Theresa May has said she will rip up some human rights laws if they "stop us" from tackling terrorism.

It comes after 22 people died at Manchester Arena and seven near London Bridge, in two attacks in the space of a fortnight. Investing in our police and in our intelligence and security services - that Theresa May has cut - that is what would keep us safe.

"I absolutely empathise with victims of terrorism. We all remember the cases in the past", Mr Green said.

Hammond told the Post that "U.S. and Russian Federation have reached no agreements", but Moscow is talking like it's a done deal. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told the Sputnik news agency that Russian Federation had the right to take back the St.

A string of attacks claiming 34 lives in less than three months has sparked a tough debate about Britain's counter-terror strategy and buffeted the country's election campaign.

.

"We have been here before - a kind of nuclear arms race in terror laws".

'All that arguably detracts from the responsibility of these scumbags and what they have done, and we should not allow that to happen'.

"I mean doing more to restrict the freedom and movements of terrorist suspects when we have enough evidence to know they are a threat, but not enough evidence to prosecute them in full in court", May said.

[I] f human rights laws get in the way of doing these things, we will change those laws to make sure we can do them.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has accused May of cutting police numbers by 20,000 officers, while London's Labour mayor Sadiq Khan warned the Metropolitan Police has made as many cuts as it can, adding he's anxious about the impact of further planned savings in the capital's police budget by the government. Setting out how she'd spend Britain's clawed-back contributions to the European Union budget as the country leaves the bloc, she said there'd be more money for fast internet connections, funds to commercialize research, and better road and rail services as part of a 23 billion-pound ($29.7 billion) package.

"A new approach may be needed through the expert knowledge of global lawyers to develop a solution by defining the word "risk" in the convention so that governments are given a duty to protect the population against the interests of the individual, and the balance of evidence for this is not the same weighting that is used now in the courts". "Human rights are there to protect all in society - that is just pure common sense".

These measures are actually comparable to a series of laws call "control orders" which were proposed by Labour in the pre-Corbyn leadership era, but repeatedly struck down by the courts.
