SEC tweaks graduate transfer rules, opening door for Zaire

Florida is now free to add a grad transfer this year, this after the SEC chose to change its grad transfer rule, which reduced the penalty from three years to one if the school does not meet certain academic requirements. The Southeastern Conference tweaked its graduate transfer policy Friday, June 2, 2017, making changes that would allow former Notre Dame quarterback Zaire to land at Florida. The Florida Gators were penalized past year after Mason Halter and Anthony Harrell failed to meet their academic requirements in 2015.
The ease of restrictions could impact Florida immediately. The Gators wouldn't have been able to add Zaire under the old rules because two recent grad transfers failed to make grades. And while Florida and Jim McElwain have been relatively coy about their intent to take Zaire, the Gators also have not batted down any speculation about post-spring additions.
The ban is now one year. Zaire played in 17 games during his Irish career, throwing for 816 yards and six touchdowns.
