Social media rushes to define Trump's 'covfefe' tweet

01 June, 2017, 01:23 | Author: Abel Ruiz

Oxford English Dictionary might just need to add a new word - "covfefe" as the United Stated President Donald Trump used this non-existent word, apparently by accident, in a tweet.

The dictionary company, which has developed a reputation for political snark on social media, said it regretted checking Twitter and discovering what people were looking up in the dictionary after Trump's apparent typo.

At 6:09 a.m. ET, POTUS followed up with a trollish ditty, one that attempts to pass off "covfefe" in I meant to do that! fashion.

Hopefully, the Hawk Eye staff will be the ones to figure out the true meaning of "covfefe" and spread the light of truth across our puzzled nation.

The President's Twitter feed was largely quiet during his recent trip overseas, but hours after returning home, he unleashed a social media blast that felt like a pent-up release of fury that had been simmering over the nine days of his debut foreign tour.

"Despite the constant negative press covfefe", the tweet read.

UK: Manchester attack investigation still at 'full tilt'
Only the straps of the rucksack - a bag containing tricyclic acetone peroxide, bolts and nails - are visible in the pictures. Grande said she would return to Manchester to do a benefit show to raise money for the victims and their families.

He scolded celebrity Kathy Griffin for a video that showed what looked like Trump's severed head: "My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this".

In fact, Merriam-Webster managed to allude to Trump's nonsensical tweet without mentioning the word "covfefe" at all.

He stoked suspense about whether he'll pull the US out of an global climate change agreement: "I will be announcing my decision on the Paris Accord over the next few days". The original post from Trump has been retweeted more than 100,000 times. "Enjoy!" he tweeted, in an unusual display of self-deprecating humour. Checks Twitter... Uh... Regrets checking Twitter.

My guess, for what it's worth, is that Trump was trying to write the phrase "press coverage"-but then. um, I don't know, the National Security Council had an emergency meeting or he dozed off or something".

"Covfefe" even has it's own Twitter handle already.

Only four tweets appear on President Trump's Twitter account on May 26, but by May 27, the day the Trumps returned to the White House, seven tweets appear on President Trump's Twitter feed.
