AMD Shows Off Threadripper and Ryzen Mobile, and Dates EPYC and Vega

01 June, 2017, 01:21 | Author: Rachel Hardy

The Vega Frontier Edition will be available for professionals at the end of June, but consumers will have to wait at least two more months to get their hands on some new AMD hardware. It was tipped to be AMD's rival to the new Core X-series processors Intel unveiled yesterday, which top out at the 18-core, 36-thread Core i9 Extreme.

AMD held its Computex 2017 keynote today in Taiwan, mainly talking about CPU and APU plans-all of which you already know if you've been following our coverage on Ryzen.

The device also boasts an AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 memory.

ThreadRipper has about twice the power of its Ryzen 7 CPUs, which are powering several new Windows desktops from Acer, Asus, Dell, and Lenovo.

But AMD still hasn't yet revealed clock speeds and, more importantly, prices for Threadripper or any of the other Ryzen 9 parts that are no doubt planned. 'At Computex we highlighted the next wave of AMD products that will come to market, including our upcoming Epyc family of processors for datacentres, high-end Radeon Vega-based graphics cards, and new AMD Ryzen Threadripper and Ryzen mobile processors. The first EPYC processor-based servers are scheduled to launch on June 20 2017, with widespread support expected from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and channel partners, ushering in a new era for high-performance server processors and the datacenter. AMD offered up a taste of what is in store for gamers. AMD displayed the processors, which will debut in the summer of this year, for the first time.

Kunitz's double-OT goal sends Penguins back to Stanley Cup
Wingels, meanwhile, played in the Stanley Cup final with San Jose a year ago and has 54 games of post-season experience. Nashville wrapped up the Western Conference championship in six games Monday night by beating the Anaheim Ducks 6-3.

Threadripper CPUs were outlined to have "up to" 16-C/32T, 64 lanes of PCIe 3.0 IO, Quad Channel DDR, and of course use the X399 chipset platform.

At its press conference this morning in Taipei, AMD gave us a look at a broad range of upcoming products.

For a product not slated to be released until the end of this year, seeing a low profile, high performance demo of the platform is a good sign for AMD and a welcome indicator that the company could finally fight back in the mobile notebook space.

Virtual reality demands the latest technologies for realistic VR experiences and AMD announced that all Ryzen™ desktop processors are Oculus approved. AMD did however release some extra information but it wasn't what people wanted to hear...as AMD has just announced that the new vega cards will be released at SIGGRAPH that is being held from July 30th to August 3rd.
