Google's AlphaGo now on the Go

"No matter if I win or lose, this will be my last three games with artificial intelligence", Ke wrote last night on Chinese microblogging website SinaWeibo.

Go is a strategy game, and its players-human or otherwise-must frequently adapt and adjust to their opponents' moves.

AlphaGo has won the first of three games against the world's number one player, Ke Jie at the Future of Go Summit, taking place in Wuzhen China.

It was a close-fought match, but Ke Jie appeared to technically be on the backfoot from early on. Google said a broadcast of Lee's 2016 match with AlphaGo was watched by an estimated 280 million people.

During the remaining days of the conference, AlphaGo and Ke Jie are scheduled for a second round on Thursday and a final round on Saturday. And both stipulation matches will demonstrate not only a wider range of AlphaGo's capabilities than before, but how the arrival of AI has changed the way that humans play Go. He also discussed the value of collaboration between human and machine. The 34-year-old lost 4-1 to AlphaGo in a five-round Go tournament last March in Seoul, but still remains the first and only Go player to beat Google's human-like algorithm. AlphaGo started the game with a 7.5 point advantage because Ke went first.

"Last year, it was still quite humanlike when it played", Mr. Ke told the New York Times after AlphaGo's win on Tuesday.

Syria war: US-led coalition 'strikes pro-Assad convoy'
A US airstrike has hit pro-Syrian government forces in southern Syria, US officials say. Two American aircraft were dispatched to buzz the convoy, and warning shots were fired.

The game, which originated in China more than 25 centuries ago, has avoided mastery by computers even as they surpassed humans in most other games.

The program's margin of victory tendencies weren't exposed during its highly publicized matches against South Korean grandmaster Lee Sedol past year because all of those games ended in one player resigning before scores were counted. As was pointed out by former Microsoft and Google China executive Kaifu Lee, the result of the battle between Ke and the updated AlphaGo actually has no other possibility.

"I'm thinking that If Ke Jie were wining then they would be live streaming it".

Hassabis of DeepMind spoke in a greeting before the match about the broad applicability of the AI technology powering AlphaGo.

It is more complex than chess, with a bigger board and more choices to consider - the possibilities of moves outnumber the total number of atoms in the visible universe. The game can't be found on numerous most-watched streaming services in China, such as Tencent Video and Sina.com. He'd seen the matches against Sedol, as well as other matches played by AlphaGo online under the nickname of "Master", so he could understand a little better how the Google AI likes to play.
