  • Rebel Wilson speaks to the media outside the Victoria Supreme Court on 19 May

Wilson told the court when the movie was released, her life changed.

Her immediate family and actor Hugh Sheridan are all expected to give evidence during the three week trial.

Wilson is suing Bauer Media, the publishers of Australian Women's Weekly, Woman's Day, NW and OK magazine, for a series of articles she claims painted her as a liar and a fake.

The Supreme Court of Victoria heard the pieces alleged she had lied about her name, age and upbringing in Australia.

What has resulted is this freakish all-singing-all-dancing variety show before Victoria's venerable Supreme Court.

Wilson told the jury she was on powerful drugs and had a premonition while in hospital.

According to court documents, she claims a Woman's Day article from May 2015, with the headline "Just who is the REAL Rebel?" imputed she was a "serial liar who has invented fantastic stories in order to make it in Hollywood".

The Fat Pizza and Pitch Perfect star tearfully recounted the "nasty" articles published by Bauer Media that she claims damaged her career.

Maria Sharapova to enter Wimbledon qualifying tournament
It will also place added scrutiny on Wimbledon's decision whether to offer Sharapova a wild card into their main draw this summer. Her ban was later reduced to 15-months following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

She said actors often lied about their age: "We all know that people do it", she said.

Bauer also claim Wilson's defamation case is retribution against the publisher after it forced Wilson to retract an inflammatory tweet she made about a Bauer journalist.

As the court adjourned for lunch, Ms Wilson could be heard commenting to her solicitor about the courage it might have taken the only two jurors who asked to be excused.

The story Woman's Day "tore down Rebel to sell magazines" first appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald.

He said Wilson thought "she'd never been hit with such nastiness" when Bauer Media published "grubby articles" that defamed her.

Wilson said that in her hallucination she rapped her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards, and upon waking realised she had to pursue the vision.

Wilson told the jury she considered herself a bogan, before being asked to describe the meaning of the word by her barrister.

It was not a concern, he said, if they had previously seen one of Ms Wilson's films, Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids among them. "I have no current job", she said.
