The minimal performance improvement has prompted many to call the Radeon 500-series a rebadge of its Polaris based predecessor.

Like the 400-series, the 500-series will be based on the same 14nm Polaris architecture. Although the official AMD Radeon RX Vega release date has not yet been announced, a lot of rumors about the AMD Vega GPU specs and features have already making rounds on the internet.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. In comparison to AMD's previous-generation architecture, Polaris has more powerful geometry processing capabilities, increased buffer sizes, more efficient delta color compression, tweaked memory controllers, asynchronous compute capabilities with prioritization, specialized temporal scheduling, and support for AMD technologies like Radeon Chill, FreeSync (and FreeSync 2), and HEVC and H.265 4K decoding. The midrange 2GB RX 560 will hit the store sometime early in the month of May for £99.

That's what we're here to find out.

We've got the two premium cards in the lineup on hand for testing: the Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 570. The Red Team brings to the table four major improvements: latest generation FinFET 14 manufacturing process, aggressive tuning for higher clock speeds, enhanced idle and multi-monitor efficiency, and a ton of custom cards to chose from. The 8GB variant of the RX 580 will be priced at $230.

Netflix predicts it will hit 100 million subscribers this weekend
The model works from a customer viewpoint because it is such a great value, Pachter said. The Los Gatos, California firm presently has a market value of around $63 billion.

The base/boost clock speed on the AMD Radeon RX 480 is 1120MHz/1266MHz. For example the Core speeds on the AMD RX 580 have been increased from 1120 MHz (AMD RX 480) to 1257 MHz (AMD RX 580). At the moment the AMD RX 580 reference features a Core/Boost frequencies that is higher than most overclocked/aftermarket RX 480 variants.

We are only going to discuss the AMD Radeon RX 580 today because that is the video card we will be evaluating.

AMD combats that with some software tricks, however. The new series is to RX-400 what the R9-300 series was to R9-200 series. The wonderful Radeon Chill feature baked into AMD's drivers can also reduce temperatures and power use by a significant amount in 17 popular PC games. The RX 570 is aimed at those gaming at 1080p, where it is claimed to be 2.3 times faster than the R7 370.

The NITRO+ RX 580 and 570 cards also feature NITRO Glow - a stylish RGB LED backlight on the side, easily controlled with SAPPHIRE TriXX 3.0 software. That's similar to how the Radeon R300-series refresh was handled coming from the R200 series. Still, AMD is killing it in the mid-range sector by bolstering its affordable collection of GPUs.

The Aorus Radeon RX 570. The flagship is the Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ Limited Edition, which has a 1450MHz GPU Boost clock and cherry-picked GPUs to ensure maximum performance. One of the cards is an "OC" model, while the other is a "TOP" edition with even-higher clock rates out of the box. So, while the RX 580 is clearly an upgrade, it is not in a different league altogether. That's pretty modest, but in-line with the increases you'd find in many factory-overclocked RX 470 cards.
