Facebook replicated Snapchat's Stories format for Instagram in August and on Tuesday announced a similar release in its main mobile app.
The new features are now being rolled out for Facebook on both iOS and Android globally starting today.
The camera app within the stories also borrows from Snapchat, allowing for masks, frames, and reactive effects to be added to the images and videos captured. Direct will allow users to share their edited videos and photos privately with friends and family without having to post on their feeds.
Facebook has introduced a new feature called FacebookStories to its app as the social networking giant continues to challenge Snapchat.
Users have options to share multiple media as a "visual collection" (or Story) to appear on top of Facebook's news feed or on their timelines. Facebook is joining the trend of quick videos made popular by Snapchat, by incorporating it right onto your news feed.
