Ford will invest $1.2 billion in three MI facilities, a move signaled overnight through a tweet from President Donald Trump - though Ford had originally planned to make the official announcement itself at a Tuesday meeting with MI officials.
Ford has said it will spend $1.2bn (£1bn) as part of a planned upgrade of three MI plants.
Trump tweeted early Tuesday, "Big announcement by Ford today".

Ford will announce investments at its MI plants in Wayne, Flat Rock and Romeo, the Detroit News reported, citing three sources familiar with the plans. However, it was unclear by Trump's tweet if the company would make an announcement about new plans or if it was about work on previously planned investments.

The contract states that the company will invest $9 billion and create or retain 8,500 jobs through 2019.
The moves "strengthen its leadership in trucks and SUVs and support the company's expansion to an auto and mobility company", according to Ford.
The factory had been producing a mix of small cars, including the Ford Focus, which will now be moved to a plant in Mexico. "I don't think we've seen the end of health care", Spicer added, labeling the Obama health law, "an abysmal failure".
