Veteran D Streit traded twice, lands with Penguins

Pittsburgh also brought in Frankie Corrado from Toronto for forwards Eric Fehr and Steve Oleksy as well as a fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft. Streit himself has 21 points in 49 games this year for the Flyers, but at age 39 is a lot slower than he used to be.

Streit was dealt by the Philadelphia Flyers to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Valtteri Filppula and two draft picks - a fourth-round selection and a conditional seventh-rounder in 2017.

Filppula, 32, has seven goals and 27 assists this season.

By trading away Filppula, Tampa Bay frees up $5 million in cap space for next year.

In Filppula, the Flyers add depth down the middle. Weal is eligible to play in the playoffs for the minor league side since he was sent down before the end of the trade deadline. This means that the Flyers are forced to protect Filppula in this year's expansion draft.

76ers C Joel Embiid facing MRI, 'out indefinitely' with swelling in knee
Embiid skipped practise on Monday and is scheduled for more tests on his left knee after missing the Sixers' last five games. Philadelphia 76ers forward Ben Simmons had a "minor foot procedure" to stimulate bone growth and accelerate healing.

The Lightning have sent Streit to the Penguins for a 2018 draft pick.

Both the Flyers and Lightning are battling for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, as they are four and five points out respectively. Fleury has said all the right things while receding into the background and Rutherford has maintained he believes the Penguins will need Fleury if they want to become the first team in almost 20 years to win back-to-back Cups.

With NHL trade deadline day upon them, the Flyers weren't expected to play much of a role in any of the typical rumors running around the hockey airwaves.

Florida C Vincent Trocheck, who scored his team-leading 22nd goal on Tuesday, has just one tally in eight career encounters with Philadelphia. Goalie Michal Neuvirth and forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare each received two year extensions. He earns $5.25 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
